An opal diffuser was specifically chosen to create the ideal, glare-free light in the cabinets. The thicker the diffuser, the less light it lets in. For example, a transparent diffuser offers 96.5% translucency and only 20% diffusion (transparent means the diffuser is transparent and the ribbon of light is visible). An opal diffuser provides 65% translucency and 100% diffusion.

The efficiency of the opal diffuser is 50% of the emission of the original light source.
